Besides laying down cards in melds, in Gin Rummy a player needs to reduce the number of unmelded cards (Deadwood) to add up to less than the total of his opponent's deadwood. Card values are the numerical equivalents, with aces low and picture cards counting as 10.
As in all Rummy Games the aim is to form melds, but in Gin Rummy all melds must be laid down at once. This is Gin.
A gin Rummy online game can also be won by knocking; here, the deadwood count of all the cards in player's hands must add up to 10 or fewer.
A third way of winning a game online gin rummy is by the undercut. Here, a player who hasn't knocked, holds cards whose total count is equal to or less than those of the knocking player.
